slight problem with sealey supermig please help

hi all , i have a slight problem when im welding in tight spaces, when the shroud on the torch touches what you are welding it like shorts out and blows the fuse in the plug !!! is the shroud supposed to be insulated i dont know? its a supermig 185 that welds lovely other than this problem!!! cheers

The shroud should be insulated, it's a euro torch on there isn't it ? Have you cleaned the spatter out of the shroud it could be earthing the tip when you pull the trigger.

i agree spatter but ive never had the fuse in the plug go as a result of it

well yeah its odd as the shroud kinda welds itself so it must be getting live from somewhere when its touching and you pull the trigger, but ive just bought a new one now so ill see how it goes , ive been welding with it before perfect its only that i was doing something tight today i noticed it ......dam

And can take out your rectifier also!!!!
The nozzle builds up with spatter and or the nozzles insulation is damaged/worn, so if this "arcs" it would create a dead short, if it actually jams onto the work can do all sorts of damage.

just to put our minds at ease , it was the shroud wich cost me 2 quid something on ebay!!!!! happy

Yeah, after it gets used (the insulation ring on the bottom of the shroud) it doesn't work anymore add some splatter build up inside the shroud....hehe, i had my shroud insulation catch fire once or twice...
