I finally got the last nut of the bumper off on my TR7, using a nut splitter and various metal twatting tools. Now I have a problem.
The rear bumper on a TR7 is held on with 6 M10 nuts, which screw onto threaded studs. These studs go through the bumper frame to a plate, which presumably had weldnuts or something on to hold the other end of the stud.
I say had, because 30 years of corrosion has meant that all but four of the studs have come out, having frozen to the nuts. Replacing the studs would be fine, but in two or three of them, the bumper-side thread has come away and is rattling round in the bumper cavity. I can't get in there as it's all welded up.
I figured using some of these might help:
They're slab base weld nuts. I can weld these to the bumper frame, put the stub in them and be done.
But where do I get them? Any ideas?
