Also made worse by builders repositioning the delivered skips, most of them will shunt an empty skip into an impossible position for collection, then the poor old driver has to chain them up at awkward angles to drag them back in line

If the skip driver is any good at all he cn pick almost anything up from almost anywhere. I've seen drivers pull a skip out from between two cars with just a few inches either end.
Our old skip firm used to hate one of the demo contractors because they were tearing up his 20yd skips by repositioning them with a 20 tonner and toothed bucket. One day he lost it with the driver when he did it right in front of him. He got out of the lorry can and started screaming at the machine driver for trashing his gear. Big mistake - the driver was some loose cannon alcoholic from Bethnal Green. He hopped out of the digger and bashed him a good'un.
