Size of I or C section to support garage doors ?

I have a 9' x 18' concrete garage with pebbledash finish that I had new in around 1987/88 ! The panels are still perfect but the wooden frame that supports the 8' wide up and over door is starting to rot. This 6" wide frame either side is covered by mock brick effect concrete panels.
I intend changing the up & over door to a homemade tri-fold. Each section of the new door will be angle iron (probably 50x50x3) rectangle with an infill or tongue & groove timber. Not sure yet whether to have one section attached to a new frame pillar and other two sections on the other pillar or to have all three on one pillar.
The new frame pillars will be either I or C profile as I don't want to use hollow section. They will then be covered with cement sheet and clad in slip bricks to duplicate the effect of the original panels.
There will be a smaller I or C profile on top joining the two pillar together.

Question is what do people recommend for pillars - I or C profile and what size ?

Afraid our customers give us specs like this - unimportant info (18'), undecided info - (probably . . .), no info (weight of timber infill), how it's wanted to work, or how they are going to fix it in place, never mind the details (guidance method, locking method, hinging method) .

So taking all that into consideration - whatever you can get for nowt ;-)

To mount my roller shutter, I used two folded rectangular C-sections, made to my spec out of 3mm 304 stainless, capped off each end so I could bolt them to the ground, secure the cross beam, and then drilled to suit to secure the concrete panels to them too.

I just converted the original door to side hinges and fitted a couple of shoot bolts. The worst job was sanding and repainting It!

this was done before i got near the place



as im repairing those doors as bottoms have come loose its time they got repaired im also doing the above and putting a drip sill onto it

the middle bar is an old oak beam

id use an i beam with yours but oak or even an old telegraph pole would be good to use
