sip welder

a mate of mine has a sip welder 240volts 180 or 200 amps.
anyway its a big un,with a large torch.
the problem he has is after he has welded some bits the gas continue to flow even when the trigger is off.
am I right thinking that the little box(valve shut off?)at the back of the welder where the main gas pipe goes into is ca-put and needs a new one.
can any one confirm this or is it some thing where the torch screws into the weld set.cheers in advance john

If it has a gas solenoid , it would be the solenoid or the line that runs to it, is leaking.
If one of the wires that go to it is detached, there should be no gas flow,if it is working.

take one wire off the solenoid ..gas flow stopped thats why I think that is faulty? I dont know much on this side of things.
oh and its a 150 amp welder.

If the gas stops when the solenoid is unhooked from the power wire, that would mean that power is flowing through it, and the solenoid is acting as it should.
You need to see why it is powered, when it should not be.

Either the gas valve (solenoid) has been wired incorrectly - or there's a relay stuck...
Sounds like the gas valve is working just fine !

ok if the solenoid is ok then what else could cause this gas to continue to flow.
he bought a new torch/lead so it cant be that.
had the side panel off the pipe goes into the solenoid and from there tubing into the main connector and into the torch.

The wire doesn't continue to feed after he's stopped pressing the trigger does it? in which case it's a faulty solenoid valve. Got them in stock, PM me the voltage (think they are 230/240v on that model but they do vary)

no the wire stopped but gas keep flowing.
if he turns the set off and switch it back on all is ok.
but soon as he stop welding or press the trigger.... gas keeps flowing.
