Sip Topmig 170 wire feed :(

As per everyone else.. I am having wire feed issues.

My problem is.. you press the trigger and the motor (relay) clicks in then off then there is a slight delay before it kicks in again... basically every now and then it cuts in and out normally right at the beginning.

Also I have noticed that the speed of the motor changes with the power level. Is this normal? ie on power one, the wire wont even move till I set the speed to 6 out of 10. But on power level 3, at level 6, its spews out wire.

Why cant sip just make a decent bloody welder!

The motor power does vary with power setting, the idea being you only need the speed knob for fine adjustment.

Your symptoms sound like a dry joint somewhere, bad soldered joint or worn track on the speed pot. for example.

thanks for that.. will have a dig around inside an have a look.

I have also ordered a transformer to upgrade the wire feed.. hope that will help.

I agree Why cant SIP make a decent welder,certainly will not recommend to anyone
