sip sudenly keeps going into thermal overloas any surgestions?

got a sip 105 migmate atm i had it about 2 years welded great then suddenly keep going into thermal overload? and then i wait ten mins use for another 5 and repeate..... so can i mend this i'm located in rayleigh essex any companys about?

and if not then what welder should i buy now? should i stick with sip? i do banger racing and need to weld thin car pannels but also need to weld about 7-10mm steel as well. so any surgestions? ta sam

Does it have a fan and if so is it running? With this size of mig you'd struggle to do 10 mm.

Sip don't seem to have a good rep on here, though I haven't owned one myself.

i would move away from sip. Also 10mm is way out of the range of a 100amp machine. 2mm is realistically the max.

The only way you'll weld that kind of thickness (badly at best) would be to grind a serious set back on both sides and do multiple passes to fill the gap. Unfortunately penetration at any point will be very poor and no better than brazing - if that!

i weld both sides tbh and leave a small gap. anyone got any idea whats up with mine? fan is running constant?

take the side off weld until it cuts out, unplug it check if main welding transformer is hot, if it is I could be the transformer has had it, the rectifier is shorting or if its cool the thermal sensor has become faulty

@ the snooper, ta fella will do the bigger unit in the bottom with all the wires going to it is getting slightly hot you say that part could be dead or what is the rectifier please mate?

rectifier is 4 diodes on aluminium plates would need testing with a multimeter

each diode should only pass electricity in one direction only

each diode has 2 connections put a meter across both connections then reverse the probes so you are swapping meter polarity

possibly, test for shorts between work clamp and gun just in case a cable has started to wear through as it passes through the casing look for obvious stuff
