SIP Migmate blowing electrics

Well this is my first post, been lurking for a while now, brilliant site!!

Well I have a SIP Migmate 150 dual purpose, was welding with it on saturday and after about 20 mins welding if began to throw the trip on the house electrics everytime i pulled the trigger! Had a look around inside and discovered some blackening above the contacts on the relay on the wirefeed control circuit board.

Was wondering if this could be the problem or has anyone else experienced a similar issue??

Sounds like thats your problem.
I am sure there have been similar posts on this subject - do a search and see what you can find.
Would be helpful if you could post a picture. There are a few lads on here who will be able to tell you which part you need, and another couple of gents who will be able to supply them for you.

Cheers paul, went ahead and ordered one from maplin (only a couple of quid), was just hoping that is all it is. Seen a lot of posts on modifying the wirefeed think that might be my next project

Well received the new relay today and stuck it in, worked fine, still blowing the trip the odd time, though i think this is due to the motor being overworked with having the tension set so high on the feed rollers to get a decent feed. Does a metal liner make a significant difference???

Yes! Fit a steel liner and do the wirefeed roller brace modification, apparently that makes a world of difference .

a g clamp on the feed mechanism worked for me!!

All ready snapped the spring trying to get pressure on the rollers (obviously to much pressure), so have an angle bracket with a nut and Bolt screwed through it to hold the roller on, works well, before that I did use a quick grip clamp worked well.

The problem that you have is that you're trying to exert pressure on the wire feed drive that it simply wasn't designed to take, it's only a matter of time until something fails.
The tension should be high enough to feed the wire but also low enough for the rollers to slip if the wire burns back to the tip.
If the tension is too high the wire will birdsnest between the rollers and the liner.

Yeah I found that out the hard way those were the days when I didn't know what I was doing!!! Still dont really know, but I try and keep the tension as low as possible, just ordered a service kit from weldequip so hopefully that will sort a few issues out!! Cheers for the advice guys!!!

the g clamp works for now and had no probs. iaccept it is a bodge but then so is a SIP from day one in the factory!

Well for completion incase someone experiences the same problems i have, I have carried out all the recommended mods mention on this forum, Steel Liner, wire feed tie, designated power supply for wire feed motor Shown Here . makes a fantastic difference to the quality of welds and ease of use if you do find yourself lumped with a sip then i would def recommend those mods, if you are thinking of buying one i would recommend DONT, the money i saved buying one has easily been ate up modifying it!! well, live and learn!
