Gidday peoples,
I have one of these migmate 130 dual purpose machines and it has been a bit of a headache, same as others in regard to fluctuating speed. I put a different hand piece on it and it was slightly better. My one however would stop feeding completely until i tapped or moved the speed knob, after a while it stopped all together, I then put a piece of plastic hose over it and self tapped it either end to hold pressure onto the knob and it worked pretty good for a while longer, I have presumed a new board would be throwing good money after bad with it, If anyone knows roughly what a board would be worth ide appreciate knowing as I might resurect it.
My question tho is about the possibility of turning it into a battery charger, I cant find my meter and was wondering if anyone knows what voltage these ones would be welding at.

Sounds like the pot has gone bad ot a bad connecton on the PCB. It is a cheap fix to replace just the pot.

As a battery charger, the voltage will be too high. The lowest setting is about 18v.

Cool, thanks for that, I usually need to charge 24 volt so it may be a possibility. but if it can live on as a mig that would be better, I figured the adjuster was part of the board. An electronics bloke should be able to just put a new one in then if I take the board to him?

Yes, just replace the potentiometer (adjuster.) It is alos likely to be a crack on the PCB as SIP's are cheap and have single-sided PCB boards.

It might do 24V on the lowest setting, would have no current control though.

I've had a fairly useless "SIP Migmate Turbo 130 Dual Purpose" for about five or six years.

The problem is the wire feed.

I have enough experience to know how a decent MIG welder should work. This one doesn't.

I've done all the usual stuff to fix it but none of it works.

From day one the wire feed has been uneven just feeding into thin air, never mind trying to feed it onto the work when there is no hope of keeping reasonably steady contact.

I think it isn't so much a fault in the feed wheels or other mechanical aspects (which I've checked and re-checked endlessly) as a problem with fluctuations in the current that drives the wheels.

I suspect that a modification to the electronics which assured a current which meets the demands of the drive wheels at all times would cure it, but I don't know enough about electronics to identify the problem or how to fix it.

I'd be grateful for any ideas on how to fix it.

Alternatively, can anyone think of a use for a useless welder which isn't even heavy enough to be a mooring for a small boat?

hi, i have a 150 sip topmig i changed the gun to a tweco2 and the cable and mounting and dont have much trouble at all now and had a new board bought an dput in few yrs ago works great .

Hi. I have a taskmaster 130 turbo and I can only get a good weld using 0.6 gauge wire' I don't know but maybe that would solve your problem.

i think he will have sorted it by now it was nearly 5 years ago check the dates to left of each post to see when they were created
