First post as a registered individual but I’ve been glad of things I’ve read enjoyed here in the past. Thank you for having me and listening.
I have an old Clarke stick welder which I’ve used to some end over time and got to grips with it to some degree but very much self taught. I wanted and needed a mig for some time and was gifted a poorly mig mate 105 by a family member, knowing I enjoyed electronics and repairing things. Unfortunately his father had tampered with it, during an episode in descent with Alzheimer’s, he’d been a very talented welder but was getting confused and frustrated and trying to repair or perhaps modify the machine.
The main board (and I expect on it the contractor, solenoid etc) is missing and someone had made a start on fitting a motor speed controller but I’m left with a bit of a confusing shell.
What I’ve come here to ask really is if anyone has been in a similar position , is it worth buying a replacement board, or does anyone perhaps have spares or something that might work? Does this machine warrant it?
I’m trying to get two cars that are both basket cases back on the road and currently immobile and waiting on a re job after being made redundant so it’s all a bit of a scratch around. Local garages weren’t interested in taking them on. I’m probably pinching from Peter to pay Paul but I can’t help but try and mend and make do, that’s been the theme of my life.
I did get hands on a Sealey gasless unit which has got some other jobs done but it’s just too hot and violent to do the thinner work even using heat sinks etc to try and cool things down. 55a minimum setting, 0.8 wire. It’s got facility for 0.6 on the wire feed roller but I can’t find any fcaw wire in 0.6. Guess I’m waiting on Lidl getting some in. Nowhere local stocks smaller rolls of anything useful, unless I’m missing a trick.
I’m waffling, apologies. Is it worth doing it up? I did message a gent on eBay who seems to make generic replacement boards who was confident it would work. I might have to install another small transformer for the wire feed element with that board I think.
I’ll attach a picture of the inside so I might get the opinions of those who have looked at similar.
Thanks again in advance
