I've bought a secondhand SIP Handymig as my first venture into Mig welding, I know these aren't the greatest welders ever made but I wanted something to cut my teeth on before I spend too much money.
I set about testing it today on some 1.2mm scrap. The welder came with 0.8mm wire and I'm using that. Anyway, first attempt looked like shredded wheat!
Just a few questions please......
1. The wire seems to come out too fast to properly melt: should I be using 0.6mm wire instead?
2. I can't tell if the gas (CO2) is coming out of the torch and there appears to be a relay controlling this: is there an easy way of telling is the gas is getting through ok?
3. I took the torch apart to check all was ok in there and there's a red wire connected to the switch but also a white one that isn't connected to anything: is that right???
