Im a newbie here so please be gentle!!
Been after a compressor for a while then won this beast on fleabay
Its a SIP unit with a 300l tank and a 7.5hp 3 Phase motor which according to the plate on the tank dates from about 1984 ish
I didnt pay much at all and knew the motor switch was broken which I knew I could fix easily.....however when I ran it up it quite spectacularly spat its oil from the compressor sump as the pressure increased.
Im guessing that it needs new rings....however there isnt a part number on the compressor itself so its proving a bit tricky to source parts...does anyone have any ideas?? I think its about 30 cfm with 2 pistons and intercooled and aftercooled.
I have found one local chap who may be able to get a set of rings for £75 +VAT which is a bit more than I paid for the unit....is this worth it? The cylinders have cast iron liners which I'm a bit concerned about them being oval...I have checked them with a set of calipers and they seem ok....my local friendly engine machine shop doesnt have anything small enough to accurately check the smaller cylinder which I think may be the one giving the trouble judging by the discolouration on the top of the piston and head.
The rest of the compressor...big ends/crank etc seem in good nick as does the motor....and the tank looks ok but I will get it pressure checked once Ive got it back together...does anyone have an idea of the cost of a pressure check? or a suitable company in the Leicester area.
