Sorry HANCYM, I'm pretty certain a machine that size could only have a small wirefeed assembly, there simply isn't room for an 'industrial' type one inside that case .
If a bigger drive assembly is your main buying criteria then you'll most likely have to consider a large case and considerably more money, even then it's not cut and dried, the Butters AMT1800 is a large machine but has a plastic drive assembly.
Its not so much the size and the plastic just the capability. For example Clarke seem top use perfectly acceptable plastic feeds with CAPABLE motor on it. Just wondered whay SIP use on the P170P before I go out and buy one
I really think you should ring Butters before you do anything else, they're such a friendly and helpful bunch I'm sure they'll give you some sound advice.
They were superb when I 'killed' my 211, sent some parts out FOC even though it was out of warranty.
I know that but what's happend to their website for the last two days I re-reouts to http://www.defaultblue.com/ do they realise? Have they gone the tubes?
Yeh sorry, not trying to jump down your throat! I'm just curious as I've just bought a 170c. It's a duff one and the drive mech. has a diddy motor in it less powerful that my Clarke 135 I've just sold; it's got to go back, their website has dissapeared. I'm seriously considering getting a refund (as it was a DoA) and buying a SIP P170P but I'd like to know what's pushing the wire in the SIP before I buy it, hence the request for a photo and comments
I will ring them, withou a doubt on Moanday BUT in the back of my mind is why/how would a company like Butters allow/not notice their own website is down? I assume it's not my PC and others have the same URL resolution to the other site?
Hi
Maybe they do not know the web sites down as it is the weekend??????????????
Did you buy the welder from Butters direct or a dealer? if from a dealer should you not take it back to them that is their job
Cheers david
As Woz said the SIP is a small case welder. I've attached a photo of a SIP 130 which shows the wire feed motor. Personally I don't get on with the wire feeds in that or the 180 I tried. If you are fussy I don't expect you will either.
You won't find the motor on a Clarke is any different in size. For something nice you'd be looking at £500.

Th size may not differ but the quality and the power certainly do from my experience. Moreover the WHOLE feed unit seems better - the sum of the parts are greater than the whole.
I would agree the Clarke set up works better than some other welders in the lower price range. That's one of the reasons we tend to recommend them as a nice solid buy.
