Sip 25

Hi,
I have a chance to buy an SIP25 plasma and have been given the machine to try it out. However all was not plain sailing and first there was a dodgy gun switch and then the air regulator was leaking like a sieve and now all seems to be working except the power seems to die as soon as I touch the metal and all I get is a small spark and that is that. The torch is a Binzel PBS 21 and I believe it is a model KZS version. I have now found that the spring support sleeve behind the nozzle is missing from the torch. Would this cause the cutter to not operate?
Air pressure now is ok and the led's on the front panel tell me that the pressure is correct and in range.
One other point,
On the diode bank there is a round flat disc type of capacitor across the terminals. What is this for?

Hi,
I have now had time for a further look at the plasma cutter.
I have now checked the main torch output lead and with air connected and with the trigger depressed I am getting around 20amps, or so, in the set at the point (bolt) where it leaves for the torch. (Tested with digital clamp meter)
I am now wondering if a) the torch is faulty or b) the high frequency is missing.
How can I check for high frequency?
Is this produced by the circuit board, or somewhere else in the box?
Any help advise here would be great.
I have found a circuit for the set on line, but as usual they forget to tell you anything about the pcb, which no doubt costs more than the set is worth !!

SIP Plasma cutter

Hi,
Well got it working today !! The missing insulation sleeve in the torch was the culprit. I turned a nylon one up on the lathe to test the machine and it did the trick. I now am trying to find someone who sells the sleeves. Found them on a USA site but not over here in UK.

Torch parts

Anyone know where I can buy the insulator sleeves in the UK that fit in between the spring and the nozzle in the PSB Binzel torch ? Tried a few dealers over here ,but they can't be bothered to email back !!

Plasma cutter torch

Thanks for the input.
I am not sure yet if it is same sleeve ,as I believe there are two or three different ones for the Binzel PSB torch. I have asked the seller a question to double check if it is suitable. There are three models of the PSB Torch. One of them is an HF version.

Probably a varistor, used for spike suppression.
