Sip 150 turbo modification issues...I'm stuck!

Hello everyone.
I have owned a Sip 150 for many years and by hook or by crook completed some car restorations and other projects, swearing, tweaking wire feed and clearing up birds nests as I went. It finally has become un-useable, so while scouring the net for a soloution I came across this fine forum and a history of mods for making these machines more useable. Here are my efforts so far:

and I've made an attempt at adding an additional transformer for the wire feed motor. I had the idea of moving the plug cable over:


...so that it would make space to fit the extra transformer in:


I got the tranformer from here:

but it's not the transformer is not the same as I've seen other people use:


will this transformer be useable?

I gather I need to connect to the switched side of the 240v (B) and wire to 240v input on transformer (C). Then 24v output (D)goes to which letter on the bridge rectifier?
Or am I way off?

J and I are the Black and red motor wires.
Any help much appreciated.

E on the rectifier is the only vertical spade terminal all the others are horizontal.

Think you are a bit off.
Ref is trans suitable: Don't see why not. At 100va should be capable enough. If you have not worked it out yet the mains goes in the bottom 0 and 240 and the out put is the top 0 and 24v this then goes to the bridge. Take care as the red circled area are un sleeved MAINS connections. easy to brush with power connected but even with welder switched off there is still 240!! The bridge is quite close to the edge of the case when side panel is back on, so sleeve once soldered.

rectifiers are usually marked + & - and for the AC input 2 x ~

The 240vAC to the transformer is best taken from the OUTPUT of the on off switch as then when welder is turned off from frount switch it will also turn off feed to transformer.
The 24vAC FROM the transformer should go to the two terminals on the bridge that have a wave symbole on them (indicating AC in) the output will be DC from the terminals marked + and -. You could just connect upto this point and the meter the + and - on the bridge to confirm you have DC out

So in these pictures H goes to Black motor wire ( Letter L) (not earth)? and J goes to red motor wire (K)?

NO Assuming that G and I have the ~ printed near to them, then J MAY go to motor BUT H DOES NOT go to earth.You need to read through the mod fully to understand what goes where. You are replacing the 24v supply to the motor VIA the controll with a seprate supply created from your transformer and bridge. I know it's a long read but do read through the SPI wire feed mod. AND do comeback to check as you have done above

I'd say if you need to be asking this many questions, then you don't understand things well enough to be doing these mods. You want some form of voltage control on the 24 volt feed to the motor from what you have been suggesting so far you haven't accounted for.

As the power inside these welders can easily cause you major health problems, do you have anyone close that can assist ?

that's already part of the welder, originally the wire feed motor took power from the welding transformer hence the unstable supply as the arc constantly changed

Err you are right I don't understand it very well and I have read others mods and can't answer what I've already asked. But that's been solved thank you.
This is a tried and tested mod, I just need to know what wire goes where?

Yes mike the wiggly lines are as you assumed on the bridge.
So if one side of the bridge, which I assume is now 24v live that can go to motor (or via the wire feed dial?)
... Then what is H? And where does that go?

H & J are the inputs from the 24 volt transformer I and G are 24 volts dc

If you go to the SIP section then list the threads, on the right hand side click the "replies" to sort replies by number of replies. As wire feed issues are high on SIPs the ones with lots of replies will be near the top!
