single layer metallic - whats avail

say if i wanted something cheap that sprays out of a gun thats mettalic and no clear required , is there such a thing these days

something like aldi paint /rustoleum kinda thing

You can get 2K metallics. I used some Moondust silver on some wheels. I then brushed some on an engine and was surprised how good it looked! It was made up by a body supply shop.

You used to be able to get single layer metallic. Don’t know if you still can and it’s difficult to polish

I once made metalflake paint by adding kiddies glitter to acrylic clearcoat. The paint shop,wanted about £50 for a small thimbleful,of real flake, but I noticed it looked exactly the same as some glitter my daughter had. Even under a magnifying glass it was identical. So I gave it a go, and it came out okay. I did several test pieces to make sure it didn’t simply melt in the runners used with the acrylic, left them in the sun for a few days, with good results. So Impaimted the whole car.

You can’t actually see the flake much in the piccie, but it did twinkle and glint most enthusiastically out in the burning sunshine.

I used to get metallic celulose mixed by my local auto paint supplier. A lot of years ago, as I haven't repainted any metallic cars for years. It is only metal flake added to the normal paint mix, so I can't see why you wouldn't be able to get it.

No idea actually, just bought from a local shop. I may still have some in one of my boxes of junk that have traipsed around the world with me. It is fairly small stuff as I used my normal HVLP spray gun for it.

Surely anyone that can mix paint can mix some?

I was going to say Metalflake wasn't that expensive, I attached a bit of a price list.

I still have a part full tub of Glowble, blue flake, a mate bought it and painted his
chop tank, frame and guard. I have painted some bikes with it and My little brother painted
a few bikes with it, it goes a long way.
Graham painted his bike in his mums kitchen, probably around 1975. He always
said you could find flake in any room in the house. His mum died about 20 years
after that and when we cleared the house we found flake in every room;-)

Go to most paint factors and they'll be able to mix many metallic colours in 2k
