It might, it might not. The tolerance on generic round bar probably isn't likely to be much use for a linear bearing.

Try a search for precision ground round bar.

mild steel bar such as en1 can be precision ground if cost is an issue..

silver steel isn't very hard, the balls in those linear bearings are very small, I'm sure it wouldnt take long to wear a groove, something like this would be better need to check tolerance and hardness, £33 for 1m though, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284132745102

nice find thanks. its only for a bridge port air operated drawbar release though. so I cant see wear being a great issue. That said once I determine lenth needed 600mm might be the right length and as they offer smaller increments in price point. It might be worth getting .

Zoro are very good on silver steel. Coventry Grinders and T&A Precision can also be a good price.

For hard chromed bar another alternative is hydraulic ram material or air cylinders.

An alternative to the bearing you show is a glacier bush - they would be a bit kinder to the shaft if unhardened.

I'd use a bush rather than those linear bearings, any slight contamination and they'll bind up.

Silversteel is generally for making tools or other parts that will then be hardened that need to keep a cutting edge or toughness. You will miss most of its advantages in the raw annealed state.

Search for linear rail. It'll be plain C45 steel that is hardened and ground. China makes and sells a lot of it for router/3d printer type CNC stuff.

Think they are confusing bright or ground bar with silver steel, which is an alloy for making cutting tools, like metal chisels for gunmaking.
