Silver plated cast brass repair

Been asked about doing a repair, appears to be cast brass from what i can tell from the broken bit.

Easy enough to repair, but, its plated, not sure what with, a silvery type metal.
Its a gert big candle stick, so maybe, silver?

Its only a small repair, in a reasonably inconspicuous location, so a tiny bit of damage to the plating isn't the end of the world, but if i get the torch on it, will the plating burn off in a big area?


What would be the best way, to repair, pin it and silver solder? Theres not a very big surface area to join, hence thinking of pinning it.

Pin and epoxy? Solves the heat problem.

Sounds like a job that could easily get very complicated.
Is it valuable or a precious thing to it's owner or just an old candle stick.

i think pin & epoxy is the least risky






or pin & tig from the back?

I had to repair a family heirloom, wedding cake stand, everyone was convinced it was silver plate and worth a fortune, It turned out to be nickel plated brass tat, I silver soldered it with O/A but the plating turned black to around an inch from the repair,

Its not worth a fortune, i'm sure! Said sh'd throw it away if it couldn't be repaired

Quite possibly nickel looking at it, perhaps a bit greyer than the 'whitishness' of silver.

Might just stick the tig on it, and tell her to run some wax down the arm

Repaired a candle stick holder for my mum using a BIG soldering iron and solder (how it was built!) gave it a good clean with the silvo we have at work and it now looks better that the other one!
