Silly question

Would it be best to keep my mig welder in house under stairs , or in a damp shed,or am I being over board

under the stairs kept my norton bike in the dining room for a year then wifey wanted it shifting or rather said get it moved

I'm not sure it's a completely silly question...

I've got a pile of aluminium blocks in my shed, the shed is reasonably dry and fairly well ventilated but not insulated in any way.
When I bring these blocks in the house they condensate fairly heavily, not a problem as I just leave them for a while then wipe them off before I post them.
It might just be that the shed is too cold (I only use it for storing suitable stuff) or that my house is too hot/damp.
Also a welder is not a solid lump of metal,
But would moving one inside from a workshop regularly cause issues from condensation?

Also, how you are moving it might be an issue, if you wheel it accross a polished concrete floor and up ramp into a van and strap it in place maybe not.
If you have to bump it across a stippled concrete floor, drag it accross gravel, manhandle it into a car boot, drive down a bumpy track... hump it over the door frame into the house..
Then the vibration and the risk of serious damage by dropping it when loading might outweigh the benefits?
Plus extra wear on the connectors if you are taking the torch/gas/power off every time

kept inside house and ive had the clarke 150 te mig welder for a while now

it still gets damp on it when its moved from the house to outside and then back in gain but if you keep it to a minimum

outside when you need it and when finished move it back into the house you should be fine

TBH, I would be inclined to keep it in the house, But take it outside before you attempt any welding, you might burn the carpet!

Ive had a spare tig welder and argon cylinder in my house for a few years now

but I have my mig wire in the garage and keep that in a sealed food storage container to stop it rusting.

I keep all electrical equipment, plasma, welders etc in my garage.

Cavity wall masonry construction not insulated and no leaks in roof. Mostly dry inside.

Never had a single issue with damp in electrics for over 20 years.

If equipment gets damaged in your garage there is something very wrong IMO.

Well there's a coincidence, my mate was also single!

my full size mig was kept in an open barn....
got fed up of replacing the 15kgs wire spools coz of rust.......
under the spool there was enought room to put a bulb holder....
used a 11watt curly wirly bulb on 24x7 all winter......
then covered the machine with a couple of old blankets.....
never a prob again.....
