Silicone types?

We have a silicone seal between the skirting and tiles in the kitchen. The amount of muck that the silicone attracts (and sticks like kak to a blanket) is unreal. I end up scrubbing it with Jif more often than I can be bothered to do so!

I'm tiling the floor in another room and will need a small bead of silicone to seal it. What is the right type of silicone to use to avoid this?

a good mould resistant acetoxy silicone would be my choice.

worth noting ive never used the one in the link, its just a example.

I'm not sure what it is, it was done by the builders.

ive not found one yet that does not go manky our bath room get cleaned often and wiped down with a water blade every shower and i redo the shower every year or 2 years scrap off the mastic and reapply

I'm a big fan of Forever White. Does what it says on the....erm, tube.

If you have a gap under the tiles then fill with clear CT1. Baby wipes off the excess, flush with the tiles and let it set.

As an aside I do the floor first then tile down to it leaving a 1mm gap.

Then apply a cosmetic bead of whatever coloured silicone of your choice and replace just that periodically as it gets manky.

Use black silicone and forget about the problem.

BT1 is another option. I reckon Forever White just pips it.

OK as others have said sealant will go mankey after a while but some brands are better than others resisting this.

I have used Mapei Mapesil with really good results and longevity.

DOW is good--sometimes.

May I also suggest giving sealant and occasional spray and wipe down with HG Mould Spray--outstanding results.

I use a Polyurethane sealant in our holiday house rental....no mould growth.all bathrooms are wet rooms....
very happy with it....first use was 5 years ago, still nice n white....

I use mould & mildew remover on mine, occasionally. Good for cleaning grout, too.

I do this regularly in our holiday cottages….

When tiling the floor if the walls are not tiled, remove skirtings and tile under them, then refit, no silicone bead.
