silicon tooling

so what do you people use when tooling silicon i used to use spit but the guys that fitted my granite used washing liquid in a sprayer bottle with water or at least that is what i think it was

i have the same kit in red and a better blue one from toolstation made by fungi

i use vinegar and water on my windows with news paper

I was told to use only Windolene on silicone, no other window cleaner. It works brilliantly.

ha ha, similar to mine mate they work well like you say i have used those without windolene ect but it looked much easier with whatever was in the bottle.

It depends on what type of silicone it is. Soapy water works on standard silicon, I use a mix of fairy liquid & water.

With the adhesive type silicones like Tek 7 that will stick to wet surfaces soapy water doesn't work very well. Best stuff I've found to use on them is either white spirit or wd40. I pour some white spirit into a small tub, dip my finger into it & smooth down the sealant. It increases the setting time but it leaves a nice smooth satin finish. Once it hardens any excess scrapes off the tiles/worktop with a plastic scraper.
