shroud advice

[7/11=12]

the shroud on my Clarke 151TE as always moved up/down the torch thread due to it not locking up against anything

& when i try to tighten it up the torch tip is nion level with the end of the shroud sort of "Ish" pocking out
this cant be right can it

all i can think to do is space it with washers so i end up with a 5mm/7mm gap from the torch tip to the shroud end.

It's alright to be level with the end of the shroud. I used to cut one down and squash it a bit to get in tight corners.

I found I got very splattery welds with the tip slightly inside the shroud...

I ended up cutting a tiny bit off so the tip only just poked out and it ended up a lot easier to weld and less splatter...

Not "rule of thumb" from what I read in other posts, it's another case of "what works for you"...
