Shower mixer cartridges

Got one of them tradition looking shower mixers, quarter turn on/off...

I replaced the cartridge maybe 2/3 years ago. Thing is dripping again now.

Best part of £100 a go for a cartridge now.

Are the o-rings replaceable, anything else in there that's serviceable that might stop it dripping?

If they're quarter turners, then the chances are it's the ceramic valve plates that are worn, rather than o-rings. Do you have the old cartridge to have a look at?

sometimes it cheaper to replace the whole mixer depending on the access.

If you can get a cartridge then just swap the whole thing, not worth messing about

I ordered a new cartridge for our aqualisa as it was hard to turn on, eventually becoming impossible.

I phoned their technical help department, as I didn’t want to get the wrong part number and find out after I’ve dismantled it that it won’t go back together - unfortunately they sent me a temperature control valve in the first instance which wasn’t great.

Second time round they sent a cartridge based on the pics I had sent, unfortunately when I removed the old one the new was slightly too big to fit in the body of the mixer bar and had ceramic washers, but by this time I had already removed the old one. On removing the old I found that it takes bog standard tap washers, so returned the £95 cartridge and replaced the 10p washer and away it went!! Result

Not sure if that helps you sorry but id be tempted to have a go dismantling it on the off chance, but being quarter turn it does sound like it may be ceramic.

I used to WhatsApp them a picture, usually had the replacement part sorted before I left the house, returned a day or so later and installed it

Lifespans vary I'm sure, but replacing a £100 part every couple of years seems a little excessive.

Depends, if you have hard water it kills them pretty fast. If not then it's probably excessive

Not particularly hard.
Upstairs shower one has been fine, both fitted at the same time, about 5 years ago. About the same usage too.
