should i be able to rotate my track rod ends slightly back and forward ? (disco)

Just checking bits on the disco before i drive it again now and noticed i can rotate the top of the track rod ends slightly back and forward (the whole rod not seperatly) , there no play side to side or up and down in the actual ball joint but can rotate the top a bit .. is that normal or?

Ah Good, Did think it was normal but couldnt move it on the scrap one .. that must just be stuck.

Self aligning as the suspension moves up and down.

If it takes a bit of effort then fine, but if it's slacker than my ex-wife then (like the ex) it'll soon be time for a new one...

If it's stiff but you can move it a bit it's fine, if it flops about and crunches it needs replacing.

It's a ball joint that is designed to move as the suspension travels up/down and the steering alters left/right

Its good, does take effort to move.
