Short wave IR dryers

Are these only of use in curing 2K or are they also better for celly/synthetic enamels rather than just normal heaters.

From what I've always been told, enamels cure rather than dry. They're a simple time versus thickness of applied layer affair. Heat may help it somewhat, but not in the same way as other types of paint.

IR short wave lamps cure 2K in a matter of minutes rather than days without. Just wondered if they were of more benefit to other air drying metal paints than normal methods of heating.

Should have an effect on pretty much any type of paint. End of the day, it's applying heat to whatever it's pointing at, so solvents will evaporate more quickly. Cellulose would therefore benefit. I'm guessing that 2K will be like epoxy in that it's an exothermic reaction?

Only one which is the unknown would be enamel, as proper enamel paint cure is an oxi(dis|dat)?ing process. I'd be surprised if it didn't make a marginal difference with enamels, but it likely would only be marginal.

Well the curing will be a chemical process, and virtually all chemical processes work faster at higher temperatures, so I'd be very surprised if the cure wasn't accelerated.

It isn't particularly the heat as I undertand it but the short waves of the IR lamp.

I use shortwave I/reds all the time for 2k clears and primers .... will cure primer in 30mins panel temp 50deg clears can be cured in 15 mins then shock cooled ..ready to polish!

shortwave will heat the metal from the inside out this drying the layers all the way though from behind

longwave will heat the panel from the outside/in of the panel ....problems being boiling the top coat /solvent pop as you dry outer layer first ...and a few more

What is a panel lamp?? I am trying to find the manufacturer/supplier of what I believe would be called infrared ceramic dryers.

They are used in screen printing and to buy them complete with stand and switches etc they cost a small fortune. Building one would be a much better option if I can locate the parts. Panel lamp sounds interesting??
