Shop Vac

My trusty shop vac has let out all its smoke
I need a replacement that can stand wet swarf
With plenty of suck
What do you lads use

I use a numatic because we use them at work (though the 110v version) and having seen them blowing dirty water out the exhaust many many times and still keep going I know they can stand up to brutal levels of mis-use.

Saying that I am just building a cyclonic collector to catch all my dust and swarf in a metal bin.

Vax John...the type that pick up wet and dry. Always find them at car boots and ebay is flooded with them too.

I've never needed anything for it.. just sits in a corner and works..

been using it since she had a new one about ten years ago

same here plus washable filters so they cost nothing to feed

I absolutely hate Dyson stuff :-)

My mother thinks that anything with Dyson on it is wonderful and each time she has to buy a new one I tell her how cheap and nasty the plastic bits are.. she still buys them :-)

Setting one on fire.. yeah that appeals :-)

I thought it was viable for free from your friendly recycling centre

I bought the cheapest offering Wikes had in the Wet 'n Dry line, and it's worked solidly for the last 10 years ! My argument at the time was that as it wouldn't last, no point is spending much, but then never needed to replace it !

It's an Earlex and has been very good

Have had a Earlex in the workshop sucking up mdf dust for years. I don't think they sell them any more, probably found they were to reliable and weren't getting enough repeat sales.
They are sealed with star lock washer rather than screws one day will pull it apart and see how the brushes are doing.
Would definitely get another if i could find one.

I got two...lol cordless and a super duper one...

Good as the vax is in the workshop its ****e on carpets lol

henry mate the one with the extra speed for when ya need more suck can be used with bags or not

I have a second Earlex that I've reserved for use with the vacuum chuck on my CNC milling machine - looks spanking brand new as no gunge has ever passed it's lips

I have also used one in a melamine faced mdf box i mad with a inlet for the vacuum and a few lager holes cut in the top, the vacuum is powerful enough to hold a panel down tight while you run round with a router and the box raise it off the bench so you can get right round.

i have a henry a harry a hetty and a charles all great the charles is the wet vac hetty gets used around the garage and henry gets attached to sawa routers ect
