Sharpening Tungstens

Anyone else out there use an upside down angle grinder to sharpen tungstens, i find it gives better results than the pedestal grinder because the score lines go with the direction of the tip and you tend to have a grinder out anaway when welding, dont need to keep going to the pedestal grinder, also anyone recomend a cheap tungsten sharpner ?

Surely they do with a bench grinder too?

I'll use an angle grinder with flap pad if desperate on site, thats about it. Normally take a box full of presharpened ones to avoid having to do it.

Yeah, have a box of 10 or so, sharpened both ends for site. Lift tig in far from ideal conditions for tig welding goes through them fairly quickly.

I use a grinder on site as an emergency, i don't find it makes much difference to the arc against those done on a bench grinder tbh.

its mabey just be i find it right acward to sharpen them on a bench grinder, i always want to just roll them and put the scores against the direction of the tip, with the angle grinder, it puts them the right way all the way!

No, I do it with the tungsten vertically but you have to dress the wheel periodically.

Also use angle grinder on site or when the bench grinder is far away. You can drill a a hole in the guard to put the tungsten throug . A flap disc is the best but in pinch even a cutting disc works. But as hitch and welderpaul says a bunch of preground ones is nice to have specially if you want some "special" angles

I like the dip stuff but not when you're in a hurry.
