Sharpening blade

I am needing to put a sharp edge on a piece of 15mm Steel plate. What tool would be best to do this? Grinder of some sort? I always think it would take ages to profile anything with a grinder. Thanks

Flap disk in a grinder would do it in no time.

I will give that a try I want it to be a fairly long angle on the blade so will prob need a few haha. I'll have a go tomorrow

40 grit flap disc, serious metal removal.

I would do the bulk of the grinding with a grinding disc & finish with a flap disc.

Careful use of a gas axe or plasma cutter would get you close, then finish of with the angry grinder.

As all above depends on length of grind (what it's for) and what type of "steel"

Well the very best tool would be a linishing machine, a.k.a. a giant belt sander. Something with a 6inch x 72 belt. You'll want an older cast iron type with at least a .75 - 1 hp motor. Cost is typically not a problem, they are cheap enough secondhand or requiring a refurb, it's space in the workshop that's the issue. One you have one though you'll wonder how you ever got along without. They come in handy for all sorts of little jobs, squaring up cut edges on stock, flattening large surface areas, radiusing or just cleaning up odd bits and bobs. And of course they are perfect for putting an edge on anything.

Hi its just to make the edge on my splitter blade more of an angle its just normal mild steel not hardox that was far to expensive so just used that instead.

You would be surprised how much metal you can remove with a decent file...

Here you go @gordon stephenson and @Screwdriver I ripped off all the mower cylinder gubbins and fitted an adjustable steel plate where the blades clamp down.

Its a great bit of kit Gordon, its scope is the full width of the bed via the adjustable stops which means it can do six pairs of chipper blades at a time. Before I got this I was paying £15 +p+p a pair for sharpening, this thing can sharpen them quicker than you could wrap them up
