I was just wondering how many female members we have in this predominantly male environment? No smart **** comments please to turn a genuine interest chauvinistic.
Nick
We have a fair few though most don't seem to post much.
User names and the content of their posts don't give too much away about a member's gender but sometimes we can tell from their email address though that's not always the case either as some couples share an email address.
One of the reasons we strive to keep the content on here 'family friendly' is so we don't frighten off potential members with testosterone-fueled banter.
That's not bad, 3 decent posts then it went stupidly off-topic!!
Please note the topic of this thread, if you can't add anything useful to it then please stay out of it.
Hello!! I usually only post in the sculpture section as I'm not a 'welder' as such but use MIG in my work. (My sign in name is meant to be tongue in cheek) I find on the most part people are really encouraging and interested to see a female doing metalworking.
I know a lot of other female blacksmiths too, I am sure there are lots of female welders around too. I did want to be a welder when I was younger-- my dad worked in the industry. I work on my own, I can see it might be a bit daunting to work on site or in a big company, but the times I have worked in those situations it's been a laugh.
The forum is great, it's got a bit of banter which we all like, so it's not sterile like some of the other forums I visit, but it's not too over the top where it makes ya feel awkward!!
Have to say I have been disappointed when I was working at a school last year in the DT department, all the practically able girls would go on to take Art and the lads DT, only one or two girls per year would continue with DT. Real shame as the scope of learning in DT is far more broad and beneficial and dare I say relevant (in my opinion) than in Art. (I feel qualified to say that as I went to a Specialist Arts school and did an Art Degree.)
I am pretty happy I am alive today and not 100 years ago.. I hate cooking and sewing!!
A Girrrrrull?
A jest, I know lots of the female species who do this stuff.
Too right it is too good for just the boys.
There is a lot of sexism which is sad.
But hell it is a good game for all.
Chunko'.
