Seven car project

I thought Id share one of my long on going projects. Its on the back burner at the moment till I finish the refurb of my power hacksaw.
Its a Tiger Avon (Lotus 7 style car) I keep calling it a kit car but that is not true. I've made the chassis , wishbones, rear hub carriers, engine mounts wing stays ect. The only part I bought from Tiger kit cars is the glass fibre bodywork. And even then I had to modify to fit the chassis. ( It doesn't even fit their own produced chassis!)

Are the front uprights billet?

The engine is a brand new Ford zetec black top mated to a sierra type 9 box.
The front uprights are from rally design (Cortina geometry) . Not sure whether they are cast or forged ali.

No, but nearly did, just about the right size for most home workshops and very well made. I lost a bid on one on Ebay a while ago and now got the Tom Senior bug. Would rather buy a mill form this era than any of the new "budget" mills.

Tiger published a book a while ago written by Jim Dudley who I think is one of their owners or employees. The book is not great and has a few mistakes but it has plans to fabricate the Avon chassis and wishbones that Tiger themselves produce.
At the time it was the only book available with plans that used the Sierra for the main parts of the transmission. There was a Hanyes book written by Ron Champion but that used MK2 escort which are like hens teeth to find.
In the end the only parts I have used of Sierra are the rear drive shafts , diff and gearbox so when I come to register it for the road I may be able to get new registration.

Brings back memories. I built a scratch one from the Ron Champion book when you were still falling over Escorts in scrappies. I paid 90 quid for a presentable mk2.

Cut it up in driveway and then began about 6yrs work. I must have been mad, young and fit

I envy anyone with the space to do this type of project. A friend lent me that haynes book "build a sports car" and i was sick that i haven't got the space to have a go at it.

Here is one of the mods I did to the bodywork. For some reason this bit is either cut out by tiger or never made in the first place. Looks a lot neater to me wouldn't you agree?

1st pic is from underneath during the glass rebuild.
2nd is how it came from tiger.
3rd is the top after trimming and filler.

Amazing what you can do with some card board and parcel tape!
