I bought a MIG welder (Sealey 180/5) second hand a couple of years ago and it's been sat in my garage doing nothing since then. Had a play when I first got it and found the wire wasn't feeding properly, but have only just got round to investigating properly. Turns out there are a couple of blockages in the plastic liner. Other than that, it looks in decent order.
So, just need to work out what bits to buy. I've discovered that there are both plastic and steel coil liners available, and the steel coils seem to be better for steel wire (which I'll be using, at least to start with). Obviously plastic will fit as that what it had, would a steel coil one fit? Does the plastic type come in different internal diameters like the steel coil?
I'm also going to need to get a gas bottle and a regulator - I've been told it's worth going for a regulator with a flow rate float to avoid wasting gas. Any recommendations for the regulator (and where to get bottled gas from in the Birmingham area).
I have wire, but it's rusty and will need to be replaced. It'll be used for mostly automotive work - browsing around this forum I'm thinking that 0.6mm wire might be better than the 0.8mm it's running at the moment?
Anything else I should replace as a matter of course?
I've also been told that member weldequip on here is a good person to buy the parts from?
