Series Land Rover Canvas supports

Winchboy has bought a series 2a truck cab. He has the rear canvas but no sticks etc for it, he wants to make a set as being an apprentice he should be able to and he has very little spare cash as he needs 5 tyres!

So has any one a set they could measure?

How would you clean the canvas? Should we stare proof it Fabsil as we have some?

Thanks I have a big Fabsil from when I did winchboys tent I wonder what's in the cleaner?

Fabsil will do a good job. You do need a nice warm/dry day. You also need to remember if you like the old faded look Fabsil will lose that as it will brighten it up.

Decent hood sticks are getting pricey now especially for full tilts, there was a time when everyone wanted a hard top and you couldn't give the sticks away. No everyone wants to go back to canvas they can be hard to find. You can buy hard tops cheaply especially for a 109, people will even give them away because they take up some much space and arn't easy to transport.

Thats the plan just easier to copy ion we have a drawing or sample, what are all the other bits for?

For truck cab? From memory, Two full length hoops to go into capping. Washers welded on to stop hoops going into capping and c clamps to hold in. Simple tubes with sqaushed ends for the front to rear tubes. One short hoop in middle to fix at centre of f/r tubes.

Wash your canvas with natural soap flakes and rinse it out well. If it has no holes in it it doesn't need proofing, canvas is naturally waterproof as the fibres swell when wet. Proofing is counter productive as once you do it you have to keep doing it.
