Selling Scrap Gold

I have about £700 worth of 24 carat scrap gold to sell. Last time I sold gold, I drove up to Birmingham and went to a place where they had one of the XRF chemical analysis machines, but that takes about half a day. There are quite a few companies offering to buy gold by post... but I don't really fancy that. Anyone ever done it?

Don't sell by post.
They will not give you current market price.
Lo5s of small independent jewelers will buy scrap gold etc. I have a guy in Devizes I use.

None of the (few) local jewellers say anything about buying gold on their websites, but may well be worth a phone call.

I'm on an escrap / gold recovery Facebook group. Someone on there would know the best pathway.

Look for a jewellers that does repairs they will give you a better price .
We dont have that issue my mrs makes new jewellery out of it.

I sent mine in by post and got exactly what I was quoted when I put the weights into an online form. I did enquire with a couple of local jewellers/dealers but they offered a whole bunch less, even for a couple of sovereigns where the value and quality are not in question they offered a lot less than market value.

I think I've found a reasonably local chap who specialises in up-market watches who'll take my stuff. Says he takes batches to a goldsmith who can do the analysis, and he'll come back with an offer before agreeing the sale. What shall I spend it on ? I've never spent more than about £30 on a watch!
