Self assessment refund delays

Anyone else having problems with HMRC on this?

I did my self assessment at the start of July and the summary showed is was due a £1500 refund. I assumed it would be refunded immediately as in previous years, normally within a week or two.

However nothing showed up I'm my bank for a month so I went back on line to be shown a summary page asking if I wanted the refund, that's new and a scam, I said yes. I've now waited a further month and still nothing.

Just went on to their chat bot and was told I should get it be 24th NOVEMBER! That's the best part of 5 months late.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a way to get it sorted, it seems impossible to get a human when calling HMRC.

if you Wait in a queue for 45 minutes you will get through afternoons after 2 the best and not on a monday

Nop they seem totally on the ball...been away for a week and on my return I had received a brown envelope demanding money!!!!

HMRC fine you if you're late sending in your completed self assessment, so inform them that you're fining them for the late payment of your refund.
That should hurry things along a bit

Sounds like they are following large manuf's sourcing departments.
120 days (or longer) for payment.
Debt's need paid in full immediately.

Think it took me about 5 months to get a rebate this year.

You need to request a repayment, and IIRC they said it can take up to 6 weeks for it to be processed, and it all has to be done online with it paid to your bank account.
I was about to chase mine again, when a cheque arrived in the post.

I'm guessing that due to the issues they had with scammers fooling people into giving away their login details and the repayments going to the scammers, they've reverted to sending cheques, which is taking a lot more time.

Unfortunately the standard of service now from HMRC. You will receive interest whilst they hold it but just keep track of the date it supposed to be refunded and if not done by then you can actually speak to human then ands it’s a couple of weeks again before refunded.
I advise my clients to not bother with the refund unless they’re desperate due to the delay and jus5 offset it against the next return
