Selecta Bench Grinder - Any Good?

Hi,

I'm looking at buying a Selecta grinder, 7" for 45 quid. Does anyone know the market rate for these? The seller (online) says the bearings are good and smooth and that it runs well. Is it a good deal? Are they good machines?

As long as it ran nicely I would happily pay that price for it, a good grinder that should last for years.

reminds me of some of the old Wolf models, Bomb proof when used and not abused. Providing voltages are ok with what you have and wheels are both sound, But do give em a good check when you receive it.

Oh, got you - always a bit much for me tbh. At first I thought you were on about body odour, that's what bo meant when I was at school haha

I've got a very similar one, don't think it's a "selecta" but an Elliot. Either way, it's a decent machine even though my bearings need replacing. Gets up to speed in about a second and has decent torque. Makes waiting for my el cheapo new one to spin up seem very tedious.

Well, picked it up and by God were the wires in crap condition. The bloke said he'd tested it and it ran fine, but the plug was all bent and horror of horrors, the British plug cut off to a three way joiner, no electrical tape just masking tape, the wire then continued to a kiwi plug (Which are also crap and snap really easily btw, British is best). Got my uni people onto it, there's a big drive on to repair electrical appliances for free at the moment after a few fires, so I thought I'd take advantage of that. I'll post a pic tomorrow when I pick it up. Seems in good enough condition, will need new glass shields making and a good clean. Tempted to repaint it but I'll see how funds go.
