hiya all,
A delivery van reversed into one of the posts that can be taken out of the ground at work today and bent it a little (The post slots into a hole and then the hinged cover to the hole flips over the loop sorta thing). My boss asked if i could fix it so, i took it home & cut it in half around the bend, bashed out the bend from inside where i had cut until it was as round as i could get, welded it together then layed 2 beads either side forn the centre of the seam to build it up a little so i can grind it down so it is a tube shape again.
My quistion is:
1. Is this the correct way to have aproached it?
2. Will this be strong enough as it is a security post?
3. When laying the two welds to build up there were sum little pits filled with slag why has this happened and how much will this affect it?
Would have pictured before i cut n welded but camera is playing up so will picture when i get work tomorrow befor i grind it down. apoligies for long post and thanks in advance.will post pics tomorrow morning
