First of all, If i can have a personal insane rant at the certain idiot types who sell ridiculous priced pre owned tools Patricularly the secondhand stuff by the outside door, at Ellesmere port market. The prices they ask, its no wonder i see the same stuff on offer every week. A B&Q hand cart (£12 from B&Q) and still in its B&Q plastic wrapper, on sale at £23!! Or an ancient black and rusted 1.5hp compressor on sale, i ask the price "£150" the guy says! It was worth maybe £30 at most. Things like this have happened too many times at that stall. Therefore I assume that I must look like an eccentric millionaire. ?
(Rant over)
The other guy down by the door into the main market on the other hand has sold me many tools at good prices. I must admit i love to see an old cantilever toolbox and have a rummage inside it, to see what ancient delights from the 1960s or even earlier lurk there. I do often wonder about the guy who used to own them. Probably gone to that big workshop in the sky. I always try to buy something, even if its only a Whitworth spanner. What i love most about these old boxes is the home made tools that you come across. Some have a long forgotten purpose, though i still often buy them, i cant resist it. I like to think of a guys tools going to the next person, whether its a crazy DIY'er like Tim "Home improvement" Taylor*.or a professional mechanic or fabricator. Just as long as they get used and don't sit around rusting.
* I love the episode where Tim 'Tool time' Taylor modifies the dishwasher using an air compressor which then causes the dishwasher to blow up!
