Secondhand Street Lamp Posts?

What's a good (by good I mean cheap of course) of street lamp posts. I have the luminaires but I need a 76mm post to put them on.

Cheapest I've found so far are only 6' long and £125 and secondhand! Might be just as cheap to buy some steel tube - after all it's only going in the garden!

Any suggestions? (And yes, my local council will notice if I liberate 2 even if they do turn them off after midnight these days!)

You could buy 3" dia erw tube in 6.1 m lengths for far less than that from a stockholder, it comes in 3, 4 and 5mm wall, or if you wanted something a bit longer to cut more efficiently a 76.1 dia Circular hollow section (CHS) would be 7.6m or even 10m long
I would speak to your local steel supplier and get them to cut them to length for you.

I like the look of the vintage street lights, and especially the old lantern type tops with the light in.

It depends on what you want the finished job to look like. The genuine ones cost a fortune on fleabay.Replica ones are available but they are quite short at 6ft tall. A tall light would probably illuminate a larger area, but it depends on what you actully want to do.

The last ones I put up in the farm yard I had to get all the way from Bristol (on ebay from a second hand yard) which as you know is a long way from here, and they were far from cheap ! I do have a nasty little cast aluminium one in the chicken run that I bought 'new' but it looks so out of scale compared to proper ones.

My old boss made some for his rugby club , just bought the lengths from the steel stockholder in a couple of sizes and sleeved the base section to give it a nice shape.

Newish looking ones are always to make, couple of bits of CHS and a concentric reducer.
Flatten themselves back out for a smooth flowing look.
