search engine weirdness

I have been using mozilla firefox for ages as a search engine.
Suddenly it has been turned into something called 'VEOH' which is useless, tells me that website cant be found and takes me onto another one called ashampoo. I then have to type the name of the website into the search bar because some of my favourites wont work.
Any ideas?
I have used an ashampoo programme for copying CD's for years. Might it be an add on to that?

Firefox is just a browser, a bit of software on your PC; search engines live out on t'internet somewhere and FF is just pointing to one of those. So FF has been modified/re-pointed by something you've downloaded either knowingly (e.g. free software) or unwittingly (something malicious).

If you've downloaded software recently, I'd be looking at that as the guilty party. If not, do a virus and malware scan - malwarebytes is good and free, as is "super antispyware, despite the crap name).

You can reset FF's default search provider to Google or other engine of choice, but I'd be wanting to know about/fix whatever did it in the first place.

edit- the favourites have possibly been played with too, to point those somewhere else - don't think those can be reset, apart from deleting and re-making them.

Don't forget you can store favourites in any program that supports hyperlinks, such as a spreadsheet or Word document.

Ashampoo sets its own search engine when installed.

In the search bar, on the left will be an icon for the current search engine. There should be a little down arrow. Click on it and it will allow you to set it back to google.

From menu, select Tools, Options, General Tab, select Manage Add-Ons. There will probably be an ashampoo addon listed. You can disable it from there.

It sounds like you have been hijacked. This happened recently with AVG too and was a real pain to resolve. It will be helpful to you to look at the search results for that as a search term. If you can't search, then I could look it up and paste it here. You can reset Firefox from about:config typed into the address bar. There are lots of things you can cock up in there, but if you look for the word "search" in the config, you can set it back to default with a right click and select reset. If you really get stuck and you can trust a stranger, I could do it for you over Logmein.

I was hijacked by 'search conduit'. Drove me nuts. It reset my browser to s/conduit.

I use chrome so I uninstalled that, searched for anything with s/conduit in it and removed it from C drive. Downloaded chrome again and reset the chrome settings to get rid of the crappy conduit toolbar. Sorted.

Nasty little *****r though. Twas dug in like a tick.

If you search for 'Remove VEOH' you should find others that have/are experiencing the same thing.

Chunko - a google just revealed VEOH is a video watching website which has a firefox search bit for your toolbar. I imagine you may have unintentionally allowed it to install itself - I have done the same with various search things over the years due to not checking properly which little boxes in install pages had been ticked.

I think we have sorted it out, uninstalled it, the problem might be with the website on my favourites, I have deleted and re tagged that.
The veoh thingy has gone. Now we just have a thing from ashampoo coming up when a part of a site is innaccessible telling us to try again.
I think the site I am trying to look at is undergoing maintenance on one page as the rest of it is fine.
Junior has got good old google back as my home thingywotsit.

AVG has a do not track facility in the latest ver.
There is also Ghostery is a FF add-on

i had something like this. Turned out to be something that had downloaded alongside another program. Got rid of it and all was back to normal
