Hi everyone
I'm a bit of a newbie to the MIG scene, but having used a friend's Cosmo 130 Gasless and finding I could actually do something useful with it (rather than just make holes like I can with ARC) I decided to buy a second hand MIG set.
It is the model in the thread title, and so far I think I may have been ripped off.
This is it on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290438526403
This is it:
When I first got it the wire feed didn't work, but this was a loose wire, and is now fixed. The welder is more battered than the pictures suggest, and the regulator was missing. I have managed to get a £30 refund from the seller so the welder stands me at £80.
The liner was a bit snaggy, so I removed it to check its length and buy a new one. Having blown the liner through, it seems like it was just dirty, so I went to refit it, but found that I can't push it back down the tube.
In the process of trying to refit it I have kinked the bowden cable, and damaged the gas tube (which was already damaged at the connection end).
My question is - Should I bother repairing it? It will need a new liner, swan neck liner, gas tube, and I think the torch outer sheath needs replacing in order to get the new liner and gas tube in (it's crushed). On top of the missing gas regulator. It does strike me that it would be a reasonable hobby machine if it were working. It has a better, more robust, wire feed than the new SIP Machines.
I also need to know how these brass connections work:
The gas one has the remenants of some damaged tube in it and I just unscrewed the liner from the other one, rather than damage it.
Sorry for the long post, but I'm beginning to think I should just take it to the tip and view it as an expensive learning experience.
Richard
