Sealey supermig 180 trigger help

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and really need some help.
just bought a old supermig 180 of a friend.
Had previously used it for around 10 years so thought best buy something I'm used to.
Problem I got now is I can't get any gas and as I'm welding my fourtrak up outside anyway thought I give flux core a try.
I've swapped the + and - over but now the trigger button don't work.
Can someone help me out. Don't want to go messing around with it incase I blow it up.lol
Looking for a simple fix. Cheers

How exactly did you do this? I have one of those welders & there is no facility for swapping the polarity for flux core!

You have to open it up and and just under where the fan is .
Is the main + and -, I swapped them over.watched a YouTube video with a guy doing it to the exact same model just is was abit newer

swap it back and see if the switch works ,,, incase the swap has nothing to do with the switch not working ,,, you can bridge the switch at the euro connection too of course without opening the machine

Yes it works fine when swapped back.
Not sure on how to bridge.
If I post a pic of the gun open could you show me how to do it

You have wired it so the switch has 2 negatives effectively so no power to the solenoid. That welder cant easily be polarity swapped.

no i didn't say that. you will have to find how the solenoid is wired and work out how to wire it so it doesn't have 2 grounds instead of a power and ground.

I'd be very careful doing this.
If you mess with the trigger wiring and get things wrong you could fry the electronics on the PCB.
The issue is the way the trigger is wired, as Qwakers says, and I can't see a simple way round that.
Was the welder on the youtube video fitted with a euro socket? These have a two wire connection so its trigger would be wired differently.
Can I ask why you can't get any gas?

Yes it was a euro type.
My bro used to have a pub so was using that stuff as it was alot cheaper and I got used to it .but he ain't got it anymore and struggling to get another.
Think ile put it back to the original settings and just keep waiting till I can sort a gas bottle from somewhere. Cheers

Wise decision!
I use a pub bottle too.
A local gas supplier was quite happy to test and refill them but they've gone now so I'll be in your situation too when I run out.
I'm looking at going for a "Hobbygas" bottle. We've a local company does them, which is handy, but will be more expensive. Still, needs must, as they say......

I wanted Gasless and was going to convert my SIP over to Euro Torch.

In the end I just bought a new Gasless Welder with Euro Torch.

If it's not your own machine it's not really fair to go chopping the wiring to bits.

If you are use to (and happy) using just CO2, you can use a CO2 fire extinguisher. You may well find these on the likes of Gumtree as "out of date" extinguisher quite cheep. Note if you have a regulator that fitted the "pub" type bottle, then that will fit the extinguisher ok (male thread on bottle / female on reg. If you go to Argon+CO2 then the bottle thread MAYBE Female on bottle and would req male on reg (new reg required!)
The extingusaher will require inverting as they are usually fitted with a dip tube to draw the liquid gas and this may cause freezing of your reg.

Hopefully there is an attachment below which shows how to do a gas/gasless conversion to a SIP welder. This should pretty much apply to yours too. The main thing is that one wire needs to be reconnected internaly instead of to the gun power cable so that when the gun is swapped to negative supply the trigger still switches the positive. Not sure how yours is laid out but should be much the same as shown and you should be able to follow the same instructions.

PS In my opinion even after doing the gasless conversion you would be well advised to consider getting an Argon/Co2 welding gas bottle for the machine. Flux core is spattery, smokey and not near as nice to use as proper gas mig welding. I think you'd find it much more satisfying and get better results on your car renovation. Hobbyweld is a bit pricey for the first bottle but not bad for refills.

Lincoln Innershield NR211 and a good IGBT Welder get excellent gassless results.

I've used SIP Migmate 130 and Sip gasless wire before and the new setup is night and day better imho.
