Sealey Supermig 180 Euro torch wiring

Hi, I’m in the process of trying to convert my Sealey Supermig 180 to a euro torch. The old torch I removed only had one small wire running to it which is a white wire. The new Euro torch has two small wires - one is black and one red. Can anyone please help me with which wire I attach to the existing white wire and where I connect the remaining second wire please ?

The Sealey Supermig 180 was a rebadged ERP machine. I bought a 2nd hand (1993) ERP 150 that I converted to a Euro torch years ago. From what I remember when doing mine the white wire was live, so it went to red on the new torch, and the black was Earth so I just put that to a suitable ground anywhere on the machine if I remember correctly.

I also added a new gas solenoid and a heavier-duty earth lead with a decent Earth clamp on it and made it detachable by using a Dinz connector. And I upgraded the mains power lead as I managed to melt it one day and thought it couldn't do any harm to use a thicker bit of cable.

But, I'm no sparky and that was over 10 years ago now, so wait for someone more knowledgeable to confirm that before you do it, please. I sold the machine last year but it had been a good welder.

I built my Dad a new boat trailer with it about a year or two after converting it.

The original torch would off had a wire connected to the main positive off the torch so you need to copy this idea with the euro torch conversion - so you can connect one wire at the wire feed end onto the brass fitting with a round terminal big enough - or take the wire to the positive side off the rectifier where you would off had too put the new main lead
Spare wire connects to the one you have left over .

Make sure that your new fitting the brass does not !!! Touch the case at all before switching on - use a multimeter on continuity to check before switching on .
