Sealey supermig 150 Removable Power Lead

Evening all,

I've recently converted my sealey supermig 150 to both eurotorch and dinse earth fittings.

I was wondering is it possible to wire the power lead up using a 16a iec 3 pin connector so the power lead is removable aswell?

The power rating printed on the front reads, 230v 220v-240v 1~50/60hz fuse T16A

No problem at all doing this just make sure the male plug is on the welder case and the lead has a socket. I would also suggest that a 16A breaker in the case would be a good idea.

I think even a 16a iec plug is going to get warm and would suggest A commando plug as above

I've not really got space for a commando plug on the welder case which is why I thought of an iec connector as they aren't much bigger than the hole the current lead passes through.

I've just seen you can get a 20a iec connector and given I run the welder off a 13a plug currently it should hopefully take the heat fine.

Out of curiosity...why?

How often do you have a need to remove the input power lead?

I would also opt for a commando, on a short fly lead if necessary...I run all my machines on commando plugs with long leads and then a small lead that runs a commando to 13 amp 3 pin plug top...purely to stop people asking to borrow stuff as I send them a pic of the commando asking if they have a socket for it, and they don't

IEC plugs are not meant for constant use.

My kemppi is wired with a removable lead but I left a short tail in place. It's very handy being able to unplug the power lead when packing it away (the main torch on Kemppi is fixed).

I used blue commando sockets...think I used the 32a ones.

The IEC 60320 C20 is a high-power, male appliance inlet commonly found on enterprise-grade IT equipment, such as large blade servers, UPS systems, and Power Distribution Units (PDUs).

These are suitable for constant use , used in Datacentres etc , they even come with clips to stop them falling out

It doesn't 'have' to be removable but I need to replace the current lead with something longer than what's currently fitted so I can avoid using an extension lead with it, the current lead is about 1.5m and is fairly limiting unless I use an extension. .

I could just loop the longer lead and hang it off the gas bottle when not in use but as I've now got it where the torch and.earth can be removed and neatly stored it would be nice if the power lead could be stored the same and an iec connector seemed like a good solution.

I should have phrased it better - they are left plugged in, not repeatedly plugged and unplugged they are also run in very cool conditions.
