sealey powered hacksaw

Hi I am looking for a powered hacksaw or bandsaw and have been offered a sealey sm 16/1. I have had a bit of a search and can't find anything out about them. Does anyone know if they are any good and a rough idea of what its worth.

The other thing is would I be better off with a bandsaw to cut small box, tube and flat etc?

don't much like sealey generally and that hacksaw doen't look great.. never used one though, i use an ajax hacksaw which i got on ebay for under £300 in pretty much immaculate/like new condition, hacksaws are slower than bandsaws but i like them, the ajax one is nice and comes in 2 sizes as far as i know, i have the smaller 6" one that is 6" cutting capacity and there is an 8" too, heres a video of mine working, the feed speed is a bit low in the video i't will cut faster! video i like they ajax and if i was looking fome one again i'd get the same one

Yes, a bandsaw is just better. People get over-enthusiastic about powered hacksaws. Spend your money on a decent bandsaw.

depends on what u are cutting and how much u pay for one this one cost 90 quid . if your in no great rush the power hacksaw is better than the bandsaw . hss blades for 2 quid and they last ages and they never snap even if u force the cut by pressing on the frame

my power hacksaw cuts better than any £300 bandsaw and it makes a smoother cut than the industrial band saw they cut metal on at the stock holder imo, they're good machines, wouldn't pay a lot for one, cause you can get really nice ones cheap, if i was using it for business where time is money, then i'd go with a big bandsaw but i have no problem waiting for it to cut things

A bit of useless info, I was cutting some 100x10mm flat on the power hacksaw and each cut took just over 4 mins.

I have a clarke 6x4" bandsaw ,bought 2nd hand for less than £100,have no complaints its fast and quiet ,think my neighbours approve too ....I couldn't go back to a powered hacksaw

haha the clarke won't cut as smooth and clean as the ajax 6"

i once cut 106 i think it was, M16 threaded studs on my power hacksaw didn't take THAT long haha

Wow supporters of both. I thought it might have been more one sided. We have got one of the basic 6" band saws at work and it has been ok. My dad has got one exactly the same as brightsparks but I can't tempt him to part with it at the mo. As long as they are ok on the smaller stuff then I might just keep my eye open for a hacksaw. You do seem.to get a better made machine for the money.

Clarke's have there problems,weak stands,require careful setting of the blade etc,but for my uses its a godsend,most of my work is to be welded or turned so finish is not a major concern ,time is ....build quality on a hacksaw is mostly industrial the small bandsaws are diy,but like shaping machines that doesn't make them ideal ...either saw is better than manually cutting
