Sealey migs

Hi
I'm Currently new on here and don't have a clue about welding.
I'm looking to purchase a mig gas/gasless, just to do some diy stuff, maybe cars and home maintenance.
I have the opportunity to buy a sealey super mig 150/1, with some wire and regulator but no gas bottle, for £95.
Only trouble is I've been told it's gas only, I wanted the option of gasless incase im doing a job and run out of gas, plus I'm not sure which one is the easiest. What are these welders like and is it a tidy price for what it is, or would it be better to wait for a dual purpose one?

gasless wire just need the polarity changed to run it...

Gasless wire is usually pretty naff stuff unless you get really good quality stuff and that is pricey...solid wire and gas is usually cheaper than good gasless stuff

the welders are pretty average hobby units, for £95 i would go for it if i was looking for a second hand welder

Do your mean that I could still use the welder as gasless if I changed the wire? This is the welder, any good ??

If you have seen the machine working and producing decent welds then for the price you can't really go wrong, they are not the most popular brand but plenty of people have them and use them..

To use gasless wire, which is as already mentioned not nice stuff to use then you need to change the polarity, this is done by switching the cables, usually on two studs marked + and - inside the case where the wire spool is held, I am unsure if that machine has that function.

to be honest i dout it has polarity reversal as an option...my sealey mightymig didnt, and my mates supermig 185 (i think) doesnt either...its not a difficult job to throw some dinse connectors and a fly lead or 2 to make it easily changeable though

just keep looking on gumtree etc. if your after a gas/gasless machine ,you often find good ones cheap as people buy them just to do a couple of small jobs and use cheap gasless wire from diy stores or the net at cant weld with them or makes a mess of what they are trying to do and give up and throw them to the back of the garage or shed , as said if your going to use gasless which can be handy for little jobs especially outside if its windy get good quality wire ,try your local welding suppliers not diy shops for better stuff ,if you go for gas get a hobbyweld bottle as the little ones wont last you long

Also worth keeping an eye on Facebook 4x4 groups...usually a few cheap migs for sale on my local ones after people buy them to fix their Landies, realise there is far too much rot and scrap the car then have no need for the welder so sell it again
