hi i am new to this forum i am building a trike and the trusty mig is playing up when turned on the wire runs all the time my electrician thinks it is the circuit board any one know what it would cost to replace and where i could get one
I would suspect the circuit board as well. Is the torch live? Touch the wire against the earth - does it spark? In that case possibly the contactor points are stuck closed. A temporary repair for that might involve removing the transparant cover on the contacts (the only transparent cover on the board that has signs of arcing inside), prizing them apart, then sanding down the contacts. I have a lesser SIP and that appears to be where the motor feed gets it's power.
Failing that it's well worth checking the wires to the motor are not touching anything they shouldn't.
A new board would probably be £50 ish assuming you can still get them. I'm sure we can point you in the direction of places you might pick one up if you've not already found one.
thanks Malcolm that would be good £50.00 ish dosent sound too bad ,i have someone going too look at the board for me but it would be good if i knew
where to get a new one from ,i read somewhere in a previous thread some one had been quoted £117 .00 for a board which was more than i could afford andy
If it's just the contactor/relay, get a heavy duty rely (£5 - £15 from CPC or RS) & fit it on flying leads to the board.
Worked for my old clark 6 mths ago, like new.
