Sealed Lead Acid Battery Upgrades..

Looking to replace some alarm type yuasa batteries,

The originals are 3.4ah capacity.
They are over 10 years old.

They are easy enough to find but I would have expected the technology to have moved on by now and the capacity to be greater?

I presume as they are still SLA then they are what they are and I am limited to a 3.4ah as I can't change the dimensions of the packs.

Unless anybody knows of any "upgraded" ones?

Alternatively any sites where I can search for them by dimensions rather than part number?

at a first thought (having just been watching bigclive on YouTube) that a few ganged together li-ion cells + charging circuits would still be higher capacity per volume than a SLA battery?

don't bother looking if you get 10 years out of them they cost peanuts

You will need 12v 3.2 Ah batteries as your system will made to keep that size on charge.
If you have the specs you may push to 7.0ah.

The standby is set to how long the system is meant to run on battery.

If it is Fire Alarm they should be replaced every 5 years.

"alarm type" - not necessarily for an alarm?
a long time ago I made an electric bike drive using a Sinclair C5 motor, and a couple of yuasa alarm batteries.
I'd power it with a Milwaukee fuel battery now - half the weight for same range.

It's the equipment rather that the battery that is 10 years old.
I only mentioned that to point out that I would expect the cells to have improved in that time.

I get a year or so from the battery, it's a laser unit, I can't really change the physical size of the battery. Lasts about 45mins when in use. Charger is built into the unit, presumably part of the main pcb although I have not opened it up to look.
As far as I know it would still charge a 6.8ah battery but just take twice as long to charge it?


Would just be nice if I could get a couple of hours or more use from it then charge it overnight.
It takes a bit of disassembly to get the battery out.
It's also classed as a medical device so don't want to temper with it too much as 'modifying' it may mess up the insurance!
