I posted about the 2009 version of this event. It is at Showborough House in Gloucestershire, just by the M5/M50 junction.

Andrew Roache, the owner of the house runs the competition and gets in judges from the arts world. What I liked about this event is that there is no need to prove that you aee an 'artist' no nonsense about where have you exhibited before or which art college did you go to. Basically if you think your work will stand the public's eye you have the chance to enter. Also it only costs £10.00 to enter and he puts up quite generous cash prizes. Oh and he only takes 10% as commission on sales instead of the more common 40-60%.
There was also some fairly questionable work on the site, but ti good for people to get their stuff into the public domain.
The competition is set in the grounds of the house with plenty of quality sites to display work. I would reccomend it as a way of trying your work out on the public. With the chance of selling it. I managed two sales worth a total of £1500.I also won the Public's Favourite prize, a cut glass goblet and a framed photo of the piece which was nice, as I am more interested in people than arts critics liking my work. Here is a picture of my stickleback that won the public's prize, I spotted the site on a pre visit and booked it on the spot.
If you dabble in a bit of sculpture on the side this is well worth a look.
