Hi does anyone know if you need a machine to clamp c scroll collars together when making gates or do you just weld and hammer together ? any advice taken thanks
If you can't do it hot or are buying them in, I guess you could just hammer them in, if the surface is being damaged / textured by the hammer, use a heavy hide or copper faced one.
Yes there is a tool, it resembles a large pair of bolt croppers but of course the jaws shaped to reflect the collar, there is also a firm on Fleabay selling something for that purpose, it looks a bit like a bench mounted pipe vice.
my grandad does alot of ornamental work and uses alot of scrolls and as i recall he has a jig he puts in his vice and bends them by hand without heat ( got rid of his bottles when houses where built at the bottom of his garden where his workshop is )
