Scroll former, bender, maker???

Have acquired these! The person I got them from bought them at a car boot and failed to ask the seller how they worked. After them kicking about in his garage he said "oh your a welder, here have these". Having had them a few days now and keep coming back to it I'm none the wiser on how to use them or even if they all go together. So to get to the point has anyone seen a design like these or own a set and then in-turn could instruct me in how to use them? After a little online search I found a company that sell some bits that look like the aluminium cast pieces. Only thing is the price list is from 2008 and they won't answer there phone.

have a browse through you-tube to garner an overview of how scroll formers work. that should give you an ide of how to make those work.
In person, I could probably figure them out in 5 minutes - by the pics, not sure

It's possible that some pieces are missing, and not all the bits you have are used together - beyond that, can't really help I'm afraid.

those cast ones are potentially very useful although if they are alu' then they're meant for cold working,if they're thick enough you can grip the end of the bar in the slot @ the mouth then wrap the bar around the shape when u run out of profile shape then lift the bar to contact the next profile & wrap some more ,stopping before the cast/ profile ends. hope i've explained adequately easier done than said.

I know mine isn't like yours but the design is close. Mine doesn't have a handle to scroll the part because its motor driven from below...Bob

Cheers for the reply. Like you I thought this can't be that hard to work out. Wrong!!! I was hoping more than anything someone would have seen something like to make sure I'm not missing anything important.

Cheers for the reply. Yeah I can see that once round the alu cast bits I'll have a scroll shape, (ish). Was hoping more for someone to say " yeah I've got one" so I know I've not got a collection of bits that don't belong to each other. The quest will go on. Cheers again.

I have that set plus the larger scroll set that folds down on both sides. I'll try to get a pic later.

The smaller scrolls should be screwed down & then you make the scroll in one motion wrapping it round in a downward spiral. After its made you need to do a flattening operation. You do not use it with a scroll former and the bending jog at the same time. On my larger fold down scroller the scroll comes out flat. Yours should also have a small angled part that fits in the scroll at the start to hold thinner strips in the right place.

Just spotted that your lever bar is different to mine. Yours has the fixed wheel & mine has it on a bar that can move. Yours is made so it will only work on the scroll sizes you have whilst mine will work on those but also the larger folding scroll as well.

Hi, cheers for the reply and pictures. Do you think then the former screws down and bending bar spins in the former to make the scroll? Im thinking if I know how it would be easy but it boggles my brain as some designs of scroll benders are very simple indeed.

I reckon that the aluminiumiumnium [1] casting screws down, then you drop the end pin of the bar in the centre hole of the casting as per pic 3, but without the flat plate being used.

Pic 2 is correct - but probably NOT using the red wheel fixed to flat plate.

The bar can also be used as in pic.2 above, but also reversed (as in bar upside down) on the same pin to use the red wheel which is fixed to the flat plate - using the pin and plate on the "top" of the bar (top as shown in pic. 1)

Yes, screw it down & then either bend / scroll the bar by hand or use the lever bar & roller to help form a more consistent curve. Like in your pic number 3 but without the bending jig. Just remember to hand feed the strip at a downward angle so it starts on the smaller curve & then lowers to the larger curve. After its scrolled you need to do a flattening operation using the bender & lever bar.

Pic 2 is set up to do a tight bend. If you put the end pin of the bar in the red wheel then you can make a larger gentler bend.
